HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The People’s Firehouse, Inc. (PFI) is a North Brooklyn-based, non-profit organization which has given 40 years of service with regard to Tenants Rights, Affordable Housing and Fire Protection/Public Safety issues of concern to the residents of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It is also the civilian advocacy organization for New York City firefighters and related services. PFI is actively involved in the preservation of essential New York City services, with particular emphasis on the North Brooklyn communities of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
PFI also works in the management and rehabilitation of low-to-moderate income housing; the counseling and education of tenants and small property owners about their rights under the law; anti-arson, fire prevention and public safety advocacy; commercial revitalization and economic and industrial development; the provision and preservation of community services for North Brooklyn residents and businesses.
PFI is working with Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG) and other community groups raise $2 million to create the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center in the historic EC 212 firehouse on Wythe Avenue. The project would provide affordable meeting and office space for community groups, to create a ground floor exhibition space for local artists, and to develop a permanent exhibit to commemorate EC 212 and the community’s activist history.
